Officers
President - Determines monthly PTA meeting agenda and presides over same, serves as a member ex officio on all PTA committees (except the nominating committee), represents the PTA at various meetings, serves as a Director of the JLES PTA, Inc.
1st Vice President- Presides at monthly PTA meetings in the absence of the JLES PTA President, serves as an aide to the President, oversees all programs, committees and events (i.e. Book Fair, Rock Hop, etc.).
2nd Vice President - Acts as Volunteer Coordinator.
Secretary - Records the minutes of all meetings of the PTA and of the executive board, attends to correspondence as deemed necessary, gives notice of upcoming PTA meetings.
Treasurer - Has custody of all funds of the PTA, keeps a full and accurate
account of all receipts and expenditures in accordance with the
budget, makes disbursements as authorized by the President or the
executive board, presents a financial statement at every meeting
of the PTA.
Executive Board - Includes the five PTA officers, the delegates to the PTA Council, the principal or a representative, and the Core Chairs. The Core Chairs are chairmen elected from each grouping of committees set forth below (School Community, Cultural, Educational, Fundraising, Recreation and Family). Considers matters for possible vote between PTA meetings.
Committee Chairpersons
School Community
The PTA serves the Jones Lane school community by including parents, students, faculty, community residents, and institutions in activities which promote the educational objectives of Jones Lane or project Jones Lane as a productive community institution.
Bilingual Parent Liaison - Serve as liaison between English and non-English speaking families and the PTA, coordinate bilingual volunteers to address the information and translation needs of parents at school meetings, teacher conferences, and for communication with faculty. Work closely with the JLES PTA Buddy Program and the PTA Parent/Teacher Conference Coordinator to communicate the needs of non-English speaking parents.
Buddy Program - Provide assistance to new parents and students in learning the Jones Lane ES environment.
Cluster Representative - Attend monthly Quince Orchard cluster meetings. Vote at such meetings as directed by the PTA. Report on Quince Orchard and Northwest cluster activities at monthly PTA Executive Board and/or general membership meetings. Write monthly article for PTA newsletter to update community on cluster activities.
Community Service - Initiate and lead activities to promote Jones Lane ES involvement in its local community.
Directory - Compile an alphabetical listing of students and families. Update handbook, calendar, and information portion. Arrange for directory printing and distribution in early fall.
Electronic Communications Coordinator - Manage electronic postings to Jones Lane parents to ensure timely communication of school-related news generated by the Principal and/or PTA President.
Health - Assist Health Room Technician with hearing and vision testing in fall; coordinate volunteers for assisting Health Room Technician when necessary.
Historian - Maintain an historical accounting of pictures and newspaper articles regarding Jones Lane activities.
Hospitality/Sunshine - Renamed to Staff Appreciation, see below.
Kindergarten Orientation - Provide hospitality and support for orientation program held in May, as well as for the Kindergarten Sneak Peek held in January/February.
Kingsview Middle School Liaison - Communicate Kingsview activities by reporting at monthly PTA Executive Board and/or general membership meetings and by writing articles for PTA newsletter.
MCCPTA Delegate - Serve as Jones Lane PTA representative for the work of the Montgomery County Council of PTA. Attend monthly MCCPTA delegate meetings and report back to the Executive Board.
Membership - Coordinate the annual PTA membership drive, including collecting and recording membership list.
NAACP Delegate - Represent Jones Lane on the Montgomery County NAACP Parent's Council. Work to improve communication between the school, the county, and the NAACP.
Newsletter - Publish PTA Newsletter, the "Jaguar Express," on a monthly basis.
Parent Programs - Work with staff and area professionals to enhance parenting resources and training opportunities.
Parliamentarian - Monitor parliamentary procedure at Executive Board and general membership PTA meetings.
Public Relations - Write articles about Jones Lane's students and activities and submit to area newspapers. Promote community knowledge of Jones Lane ES.
Publicity/Signs - Design monthly PTA bulletin board and update outside JLES sign.
Quince Orchard High School Liaison - Communicate QOHS activities by reporting at monthly PTA Executive Board and/or general membership meetings, and by writing articles for PTA newsletter.
Safety - Assist with school emergency plan(s) and telephone tree establishment and implementation. Notify community of safety issues and rules.
Staff Appreciation - Provide refreshments for staff at monthly staff meetings, staff appreciation day, and other events as necessary. Promote a caring relationship between community and staff by noting births, deaths, marriages, illnesses and holidays.
Summer Jobs - Organize various summer jobs including covering bulletin boards, creating the August mailer, and assembling the back-to-school packets.
Website - Manage JLES PTA web page. Post PTA calendars and news to site.
Welcome - Arrange welcome program for new incoming parents and children.
Yearbook - Organize the preparation of the Jones Lane ES yearbook and coordinate its annual sales.
Cultural
The PTA sponsors programs designed to enrich the cultural awareness and experience for Jones Lane students beyond those typically provided in the day to day classroom environment.
Art to Remember - Coordinate program with art department to capture student art in various product forms for purchase.
Cultural Arts - Attend County Showcase in early fall. Schedule quarterly
cultural performances.
Drama Club - Coordinate after school Drama Club, including registration and class assignments.
Savings Bank - Coordinate "Jaguar Savings Bank" for students to participate with local bank.
Educational
The PTA supports educational initiatives that supplement the defined K-5 curriculum, as determined jointly by the staff and PTA.
Book Fair - Coordinate a book fair during late fall to stimulate interest in books and provide shopping opportunity for parents and students.
Computer Lab - Assist staff in the operation of the computer lab by developing volunteer training, organizing computer materials, and scheduling volunteers to work during classroom hours.
Conferences - Schedule parent / teacher conferences in November.
Destination Imagination - Coordinate Jones Lane ES participation in this state and national program designed to enhance student teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills through organized, team-based creative problem solving competitions.
Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES) - Coordinate before school foreign language program, including registration and class assignments, and scheduling of parent volunteers.
Gifted and Talented - Work with faculty to ensure that parents and students are fully aware of the range of gifted and talented programs offered to Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) students. Serve as a resource for parents wishing to learn more about MCPS policies regarding gifted students.
Hands On Science - Coordinate after school science program, including registration and class assignments.
Literacy Lab - Assist staff in the operation of the Literacy Lab by developing volunteer training, organizing teaching materials and scheduling volunteers to work during classroom hours.
Math Lab - Assist staff in the operation of the Math Lab by developing volunteer training, organizing teaching materials and scheduling volunteers to work during classroom hours.
Outdoor Classroom - Assist staff in the development and utilization of programs geared to outdoor learning adventures. Help maintain grounds.
Reflections - Coordinate this National PTA arts recognition and achievement program for students in literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.
Science Night - Promote interest in the sciences by involving children in the production and display of interesting scientific and technological exhibits.
Special Needs - Collect and advertise county programs for children with special needs, maintain a resource file, and arrange special coffee programs for parents.
Student Newspaper - Coordinate and publish monthly publication of student newspaper working with student staff.
Teacher Grant - Promote and coordinate JLES PTA grants for in school programs. Promote the availability of the Teacher Grant Program to JLES teachers and staff, assist staff with the application process, and chair the committee to select grant recipients. The Teacher Grant Program chairperson also monitors grant recipients to ensure that programs are executed as outlined in JLES PTA grant applications.
Turn Off the TV - Organize spring event which encourages children and families not to watch TV for one week. The week culminates in an Ice Cream Social to celebrate success.
Fundraising
The PTA sponsors fundraising initiatives which support the goals of the PTA programs and help fund the objectives established with the school to enhance the educational environment for our children.
Birthday Book Club - Manage birthday book club donations submitted in honor of a child’s birthday. Purchase faceplates for use by the school library. Coordinate transfer of information between book club participants and the school library to promote the program. Work closely with Book Fair volunteers to cross promote this opportunity.
Promotions - Organize receipt, label and box top collection programs. Promote the use of schoolpop.com. Develop participation incentive programs.
Sally Foster Fundraiser - Coordinate this fall gift-wrap and chocolates fundraising program. Funds are used to support PTA activities.
Silent Auction - Coordinate this spring fundraiser.
Spirit Clothing - Coordinate selling of JLES logo clothing and other
spirit items.
Dining Out - A percentage of your bill goes to support Jones
Lane PTA activities.
Recreation and Family
The PTA sponsors programs designed to provide recreational "family time" and create experiences for Jones Lane families which will result in fun and fond memories of family time spent at Jones Lane.
Bingo/Family Game Night - Coordinate an event for families to participate in one or more evenings of fun.
Fifth Grade Farewell - Coordinate 5th grade graduation program and activities.
Jagfest - Organize and coordinate this fun spring evening "picnic" and family activities.
Rock Hop - Organize spring family dance event.
Skate Night - Organize one or more roller skating nights.
Walkathon/Young Run - Organize JLES participation in the on-site walk for the homeless of Montgomery County and community-wide fun run.
Welcome Back Picnic - Organize schoolyard, informal picnic during first
week of school for JLES families.
International Night- organize this fun family event to introduce
the JLES community to different cultures.
